Sorry for the lag in articles, we have been doing important local work, but are resuming service properly, we have of course: kept news, but have not published stories on all of it here.
On Tuesday: the "Lord's Resistance Army" (LRA): accused of mass murder by the Catholic Umbrella (Social Justice/ Humanitarian/ Charity) grouping: Caritas Internationalis, among others, but still denying many claims: has desperately called for a peace treaty: after the armies of three nations joined in offensive to drive the group accused of massive human rights abuses: from the (DRC) Congo.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the (DRC) country, it was reported by Reuters: yesterday, that a mediator: of talks which occur in Kenya: has asked for a temporary ceasefire, between the Congolese government: and these other rebels. This second conflict is the one which made most major news stations, after tens of thousands fled their homes. The first made newspapers: with the attack of a Catholic church, and slaughter of those inside of it.

Canada: Capt. Robert Semrau, released
Capt. Robert Semrau (35), charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of an severely injured Taliban fighter in Afghanistan has been released into custody with seven conditions. He cannot possess weapons, ammunition or explosives, remain under military authority, stay in Canada, hand over his Canadian and military passports, continue to live where he resides, notify military of any address or phone changes within 48 hrs, and abstain from speaking with any witnesses. It was noted that he did not pose a threat to the public and would not flee and has an exemplary record with the Canadian Forces and the British army prior.
While questions immediately arose about the two-month-long delay between the date of the man’s death and the date the senior commanders learned of the allegations it seems fair to say that once informed they acted swiftly. Apparently this is not a long time for allegations to make their way up the chain of command.
Everyone has acted very quickly on this charge for fear of another hard lesson to be learnt as with the strain of Somalia. The customs of the Cdn Forces have changed and being open, transparent, very professional and dedicated to their jobs. They want to be known to do the right thing.
A Canadian soldier must be held to a very high standard, whether through Rules of Engagement, which require troops, use force lawfully or the Code of Conduct. An army is only as good and disciplined as its troops and officers and their collective willingness to play by the rules. They are controlled by a lawful government and nobody wants soldiers taking initiative as to how they apply force. This is what makes the violence they apply morally acceptable…sometimes.
The Canadian Forces biggest fear regarding these charges was it being another incident and accusations like in Somalia. A repeat of what happened in Somalia in 1993 in not in the best interests of the Cdn military, nobody want an ensuing cover-up that shook Canadians’ faith in the military ever again. On March 16, 1993, Shidan Arone, was tortured and beaten to death by two members of the now-disbanded Canadian Airborne Regiment, this remains the single greatest strain in the history of the Canadian Forces. It was two rank and file soldiers who were criminally charged. It appears that the young man’s death was really the result of an out-of-control culture by lax and unaccountable senior leaders who later tried to cover up the magnitude of what had happened after information was leaking out, a total disgrace to our military. Out of this horror the NIS was created an independent military police unit.
This is not the case with the charges against Captain Robert Semrau, who authorities were notified within 4 days after incident. A hearing will be set before a military judge to determine whether the evidence is sufficient to proceed to trial, innocent until proven guilty.

BBC World News is reporting that the Israeli and Lebanese authorities confirm the launching of three missiles from southern Lebanon, into Northern Israel: creating a situation: where Israel is now being attacked from both sides: complicating the war: as Egypt, and France, are still attempting a ceasefire between Hamas, and Israel. While three are confirmed, some reports, are said to put it at five, according to the BBC.
The attacks (BBC World News (Secular; British; Government) 08 / Jan / 2009) wounded two Israelis, and shell-shocked others. They follow a rise in anti-Israeli rhetoric, by Hezbolla, and 60 Israeli air-strikes on Hamas in the Gaza Strip, as well as renewed Israeli interest in a ceasefire.
The Previous war between Israel, and Hezbolla: happened on the back of a conflict between Israel, and Hamas: according to BBC World News. Hezbolla, recently became a major threat to Lebanon again, threatening civil war, over objections to spy networks they had amassed.
Hezbolla, like Hamas: is an obstacle to democracy: in the country in which they are based. Both have as a final goal: the annihilation of Israel, and the destruction of her people. Both: have gained what they have: via brute force, and propaganda. Neither group: is a state: both are known terrorist groupings: whose methods almost always involve the actions of terror tactics, and brute force, or calls for violence, and or propaganda: or political maneuvering, or the like.
Meanwhile the president of Indonesia (according to CWNews (Catholic; American; Independent) 07 / Jan / 2009), has called the Israel-Hamas conflict: not religious, but political: a move by a largely (about 88%) Muslim nation, which is a statement, and move of aid, or rather: benefit, and advantage: to Israel: who have been made to face protests by Muslims, which have dotted, or cross-hashed across many nations within the the Global Scene: Canadian versions of such protests, were met by pro-Israeli Protests, meaning that those protesting, represented the two different sides independently: however: protests in the Islamic world have largely been anti-Israeli. This move by Indonesia, which is another move by an Islamic nation: saying that the conflict is political: also is of aid to any peace process, as Israel, whatever their methods, are attempting to protect their sovereignty, something which is endangered by protests and condemnation: which: if aimed only at Israel: further complicate the entire situation.

Canadian Soldier Killed
The media has just released to the public that a 42 year old Canadian soldier, Trooper Brian Richard Good, based in Petawawa, Ontario has been killed in a roadside bomb, wounding three others north of Kandahar, in Afghanistan.
The total has now reached 107 Canadian soldiers killed, part of the Afghan mission since 2002.

A peace agreement: accepted by Israel, the Palestinian State ("Authority"), Egypt, and France, and proposed by Egypt and France: to halt the catastrophe in the Gaza Strip: has been rejected by Hamas: who are still waiting for borders to open, and sanctions to be dropped.
Hamas, and Israel: are at this point: both open to viewing non-combative solutions, according to CBS: however: any solution must stop Rocket fire on Israel, and Israel apparently wants assurance Hamas will not rearm. Hamas: wants open borders: so that they can communicate with the world, and trade with it.
South African Church to probably lament humanitarian situation; but not condemn either group
Expect a statement from the South African Catholic Bishops Conference, likely in accordance with other groupings: on the dire humanitarian situation on the ground. Despite talking with sources within the church, we remain, and will continue to remain independent. However, we may start publishing articles: covering some statements released by the local bishops, in as independent manner as we always do so: saying when things are us or others. We will however, either vet this, or do as with our emails from VIS, and Fides. We cannot reveal any source as to our statement about the local bishops likely releasing a statement. Israel claims that Hamas is a terrorist group. This is easily verifiable: any group, which is not a Nation, which takes a territory from a legitimate government, chases away observers, and both fires rockets on civilians, killing indiscriminately, and willfully: injures noncombatants: well: it sounds like a terrorist grouping.
It is claimed that there are large civilian casualties. As verified on the ground, by a Canadian Newspaper; this seems true, as with what they claim: that there are militants in the areas. The UN, however, claims that the attack on the UN school: is unjustified: and denies claims of militants in the area. The UN; being UN representation. Certain representatives of the UN, have periodically done things which are classified as Genocide by the Nations represented in it, again, it has a voice, but International journalists, and an investigation needs to be conducted, before clear facts are established.
Israel is stopping bombing of Gaza for three hours a day: to allow humanitarian aid in. It is thought by some to be due to pressure.
Israel's claims of minimization of Civilian casualties? Well: again; Gaza is densely populated, and Israel claims that Hamas is attempting to get cover from shooting from civilian areas, basically using Palestinians as Human Shields: and at Israeli civilians.
Hamas seems to have the goal of wiping Israel off the map; and does not recognize Israel as a state. A bit of Insider Information, from the anti-apartheid campaign: when someone is arrested: you make as much noise as possible: as it is how to get them out. The same goes for any political source. Exactly what is occuring: is still doubtful: as often: both sides will get as much support as possible from any side viable. In South Africa we have seen organizations supporting "human Rights"; as within the UN itself: being utterly partisan, and seemingly ignoring abuses of such. The UN recently awarded two high level pro-abortion campaigners: awards for their "contribution" to humanity. The UN, is not infallible, and is as partisan as its local structures.
Israel: has of course pointed to other wars, of Western Nations: including that in Afghanistan; and in Iraq: and the what sounded like the Falklands: in attempting to justify attacks.
They still claim: that the moment Israel is safe from rocket-fire: is the moment they withdraw. Their battle is increasingly gaining bad press in some nations: due to a lapse in publicity campaigns: and their propaganda war. When America invaded Iraq: their propaganda war was highly successful: papers across the world: aired their propaganda about "Weapons of Mass Destruction" in Iraq. Israel could have made wiser decisions: the 72 hour truce suggested: to allow in humanitarian aid: an allowance of the BBC or the like of EuroNews: into Gaza: may have done much: maintaining only air-strikes: could also have been more politically wise.
Some politicians: in Israel: desire the annihilation of Hamas from the scene, but the largely "moderate" government in power: still: is only claiming to be attempting to stop rocket fire.
The fact remains: Hamas; is not a government, not democratically elected, not a state, and not sovereign. They have seized the Gaza Strip: by force: from a legitimate government. They have smuggled in weapons, and are attacking civilians daily. An Israeli infant has been reported as a casualty of a terrorist strike. Hamas has chased away international observers, which were meant to watch smuggling: and consistently there is propaganda spewed throughout the Gaza Strip.
Israel itself, either out of distrust, or as they claim: for their safety; or to cover up what is happening: is not allowing in International Journalists.
Israel, has decided to invade a highly populated area: choosing war: rather than sanctions; and limited tactical bombings, or Police work; with Egypt, which could have aided the situation.
This could be partly due to the unfair partisan way in which many nations have treated Israel: this attack: could well be giving them the same press: as sanctions would have had: in many nations.
If Hamas is a terrorist group which they are, and if they are holding the people of Gaza, as media material, or "Human Shields", then this situation, is much the same: as though terrorists had taken a school: how do governments deal with this: via negotiations; via snipers, via tactical force: which is sure: not to hit civilians, if possible, or via arrests, and court appearances, if possible.
I know of; indirectly (I would be ashamed if they were my friends): many people, including South African politicians: who went to Iraq to be human shields, during the Second Gulf War. It is still the duty, of a civilized authority, not to hit human shields: if viable; at least: I don't think they are combatants: even if they are extremely foolish; after all: companies can't saw environmentalists chained to trees apart.
None the less: an immediate ceasefire by Israel: may be impractical, if not politically impossible to achieve.
Diplomacy and a desire to impress, has seen Israel allow humanitarian aid in, has created suggestions of three hour breaks daily, and has resulted in America largely ignoring the current war. This same desire to impress: is being followed by authorities: which were seen as too weak in their positions on Hamas; and have now regained some "credibility", with their constituencies: something which cannot be ruled out: as a cause of their invasion: their counterstrike.
Until an international non-partisan, independent force is allowed to investigate this situation: it is impossible to know where, when or if each side is breaking international law. Yes, direct terrorist attacks do break the law: Hamas: is a terrorist group: but Israel, is like the owner of the house which is attacked: they too, can be justly arrested if they abuse burglars.
An international tribunal needs to do something about Hamas, they must be Isolated, funding must be cut off, they must be disbanded and arrested. They are the cause of this situation: but if Israel, has mistreated the little child Hamas has brought with: to rob their house: then something must be done. There is no question that what Hamas is doing is both illegal, and terrorism, and unjustifiable evil. Only groups, like South Africa's Communist Affiliated: ANC controlled: government can ignore this. The question is: how legitimate are Israeli claims, that they are acting either as best as possible in extenuating circumstances: or obeying international law.
The real question is not whether Hamas is justified: they are not. The question, is whether or not Israel is obeying international law: and how Israel can act in the right way to sort this situation out. Hamas cannot be expected to do so: they are terrorists, and criminals: if we understand international law. The question: is not whether or not Israel has the right to defend themselves: there is always muttering about them: even when they do something good: the question: is as to their choice of methods in doing so.
A way to withdraw from this war: pride intact: must be given to Israel: or at least, a manner in which some victory (I am not speaking of military, but in general)may be won, by the group. Either, a win-win situation must be gained, or a win-lose: where the loser thinks they have also achieved what they can. Israel: is only doing so, in evidence of how sick the Israeli people are of living in war, in terror.
In the same way: as police brutality is something which is lamented: Israel; could be abusing its position, and going beyond the rights which the International Community gives them, but while any rational person should express worry over statistics; until the fog of war clears, it is unclear what we are dealing with at all.
It was just as unclear in the Russia-Georgia conflict recently; where it is now though by many: that both nations had broken international law.
As it is, the high casualties experienced: must be investigated: and leaving the situation, as is: can no longer be tolerated: the International Community: must force through, even quietly: a way for permanent peace.

Israel could have made wiser decisions: the 72 hour truce suggested: to allow in humanitarian aid: an allowance of the BBC or the like of EuroNews: into Gaza: may have done much: maintaining only air-strikes: could also have been more politically wise.
Some politicians: in Israel: desire the annihilation of Hamas from the scene, but the largely "moderate" government in power: still: is only claiming to be attempting to stop rocket fire.
The fact remains: Hamas; is not a government, not democratically elected, not a state, and not sovereign. They have seized the Gaza Strip: by force: from a legitimate government. They have smuggled in weapons, and are attacking civilians daily. An Israeli infant has been reported as a casualty of a terrorist strike. Hamas has chased away international observers, which were meant to watch smuggling: and consistently there is propaganda spewed throughout the Gaza Strip.
Israel itself, either out of distrust, or as they claim: for their safety; or to cover up what is happening: is not allowing in International Journalists.
Israel, has decided to invade a highly populated area: choosing war: rather than sanctions; and limited tactical bombings, or Police work; with Egypt, which could have aided the situation.
This could be partly due to the unfair partisan way in which many nations have treated Israel: this attack: could well be giving them the same press: as sanctions would have had: in many nations.
If Hamas is a terrorist group which they are, and if they are holding the people of Gaza, as media material, or "Human Shields", then this situation, is much the same: as though terrorists had taken a school: how do governments deal with this: via negotiations; via snipers, via tactical force: which is sure: not to hit civilians, if possible, or via arrests, and court appearances, if possible.
I know of; indirectly (I would be ashamed if they were my friends): many people, including South African politicians: who went to Iraq to be human shields, during the Second Gulf War. It is still the duty, of a civilized authority, not to hit human shields: if viable; at least: I don't think they are combatants: even if they are extremely foolish; after all: companies can't saw environmentalists chained to trees apart.
None the less: an immediate ceasefire by Israel: may be impractical, if not politically impossible to achieve.
Diplomacy and a desire to impress, has seen Israel allow humanitarian aid in, has created suggestions of three hour breaks daily, and has resulted in America largely ignoring the current war. This same desire to impress: is being followed by authorities: which were seen as too weak in their positions on Hamas; and have now regained some "credibility", with their constituencies: something which cannot be ruled out: as a cause of their invasion: their counterstrike.
Until an international non-partisan, independent force is allowed to investigate this situation: it is impossible to know where, when or if each side is breaking international law. Yes, direct terrorist attacks do break the law: Hamas: is a terrorist group: but Israel, is like the owner of the house which is attacked: they too, can be justly arrested if they abuse burglars.
An international tribunal needs to do something about Hamas, they must be Isolated, funding must be cut off, they must be disbanded and arrested. They are the cause of this situation: but if Israel, has mistreated the little child Hamas has brought with: to rob their house: then something must be done. There is no question that what Hamas is doing is both illegal, and terrorism, and unjustifiable evil. Only groups, like South Africa's Communist Affiliated: ANC controlled: government can ignore this. The question is: how legitimate are Israeli claims, that they are acting either as best as possible in extenuating circumstances: or obeying international law.
The real question is not whether Hamas is justified: they are not. The question, is whether or not Israel is obeying international law: and how Israel can act in the right way to sort this situation out. Hamas cannot be expected to do so: they are terrorists, and criminals: if we understand international law. The question: is not whether or not Israel has the right to defend themselves: there is always muttering about them: even when they do something good: the question: is as to their choice of methods in doing so.
A way to withdraw from this war: pride intact: must be given to Israel: or at least, a manner in which some victory (I am not speaking of military, but in general)may be won, by the group. Either, a win-win situation must be gained, or a win-lose: where the loser thinks they have also achieved what they can. Israel: is only doing so, in evidence of how sick the Israeli people are of living in war, in terror.
In the same way: as police brutality is something which is lamented: Israel; could be abusing its position, and going beyond the rights which the International Community gives them, but while any rational person should express worry over statistics; until the fog of war clears, it is unclear what we are dealing with at all.
It was just as unclear in the Russia-Georgia conflict recently; where it is now though by many: that both nations had broken international law.
As it is, the high casualties experienced: must be investigated: and leaving the situation, as is: can no longer be tolerated: the International Community: must force through, even quietly: a way for permanent peace.

Only about 30% of Spanish people attend mass regularly: as compared with Johannesburg's, about 1%, and less than 10% of Catholics: this is actually large. Unlike many other countries: Spain, like America: was bitten by a vampirous Al Qaeda: and in turn: became something else entirely.

Nowhere Safe in Gaza as Israel targets School
Israel strikes a UN school in Jebaliya, where hundreds of Palestinians were hiding, killing at least 30, mainly children.
Gaza’s biggest hospital is now without power and operating on backup generators that could lose power at anytime. Doctors are working around the clock and are not prepared for the hundreds of patients they’ve been receiving. Everyone is terrorized and traumatized, no place is safe in Gaza.
It seems people stepped outside a shelter thinking it was safe to get some air when they were hit with gunfire.
Children were being laid out on the hospital floor with grief stricken parents hysterical not knowing if they were dead or alive. Medics were running rapidly throughout the hospital taking pulses.
Israeli claims of militants in the area were confirmed: in an incident: where it seems: Hamas was attempting to create a publicity nightmare for Israel: via human shields.

Durban's Mercury: is reporting: that one man jumped from a building, dying, and two were seriously injured, by a mob, who took it upon themselves to attack the foreigners.
Kwazulu-Natal: an ANC stronghold: has repeatedly been the scene of violence between ANC supporters, and IFP supporters, with house burnings, and violence. It is a real fear, that this will resurface with elections. A picture of the armed mob: assaulting the building, appeared in the Mercury. Refugee camps: to house foreigners: after dozens of deaths: have since, largely been closed: with residents: deported, or forced to "integrate".
Images: of a foreigner: burning, having been set alight: are still fresh in the global consciousness. Violence: over political beliefs is common in South Africa; and these beliefs: are often very influenced by tribal views.

Christians: who were raped, beaten up, murdered, and had possessions, and property: either stolen or burnt, have suffered "Ethnic Cleansing", Blitz, or Genocide: since Hinduist sectarians: have attacked them: blaming an assassination, of a radical leader: conducted by Maoist Rebels, on Christians: instead of on those claiming responsibility: and using this to springboard a genocide.
The Court: has demanded: that minority rights be protected: claiming that the government must either start to protect Christians, who still are endangered by roaming mobs of Hindu Nationalists, thought still to be operating, or these authorities should resign. It also lamented the fact: that no protection was afforded Christians: before the 50 000 or so fled their homes.
Nuns were arrested for crimes, such as kidnapping, of orphans in their care: which it was later proven (after arrests) that they did not do: and authorities have been accused of covering up negligence. Authority forces: have also been accused of standing by, doing nothing: as mobs attacked, beat up, stole from, and abused: minority Christians. Forced conversions: proved by violence to be done against fellow Christians: have occurred.

According to the Associated Press: Benedict XVI: is extremely worried about the Gaza conflict, and is encouraging what he can: to bring about peace: between the State of Israel, and Terrorist occupiers of Gaza: Hamas. Benedict XVI: wants the situation to return to negotiations: believing the conflict; which re-emerged, with hundreds of terror attacks by Hamas against Israel; and the Israeli response at a later date: as rockets continue to be launched against Israel, and Israel has launched air, then ground strikes: to be maintained by hatred.
At least 3 Israeli civilians have been killed, we previously reported 4 were killed, but this was either an assumption, or contradicts a dispatch we heard in Sky news. 3 Israeli combatants have also died in friendly fire, according to a report we heard, another two, according to Sky news: are casualties.
A Palestinian, who gave a report for BBC world news, approached a man: dressed like a doctor: saying "you are foreign", and asking his opinion, the man said that most casualties were civilians. Until international journalists are let in, including BBC's top brass: no clear, reliable picture of circumstances can begin to emerge.
Hamas had not been part of recent negotiations: and had seized the Gaza strip, by military might, from the Palestinian "Authority", and recently began launching terrorist attacks at Israeli civilians. Israel has been accused of a disproportionate response. Hamas has also: purposely operated from areas with large populations... and has aimed most attacks: at Israeli civilians: recently hitting a childcare facility.

Israel claims that it is for their safety, that they are keeping international Journalists away. AsiaNews, is reporting, that a group of Catholic nuns, in Vietnam, are saying they will put off protesting the seizure, forced eviction of themselves from, and the demolishing of their convent, if state authorities declare that the seizures of Catholic religious land, which happen regularly: are aimed at "uprooting religion". The Communists now plan to erect a luxury hotel on the site, where the convent was demolished.
The nuns are asking if there is an official government policy for the irradiation of religion. Recently, in several areas, with large Catholic populations, the government banned the attendance of Midnight Mass, on Christmas.
Catholics arrested, by state officials: and given punishments of between one year (12 months) and seventeen (17 months- just short of a year and a half by one month) Months, in prison, for simply being involved in a prayer vigil: in praying outside a Parish (Thai Ha Parish): seized by the communists,communists who recently stole Catholic artifacts, from a Nuncio, also seized from the church (arrests of 8 Catholics for what appears to be: "disturbing the peace" via prayer vigil there, also occurred): were reported in state media, as accepting their "guilt", and therefore receiving lighter sentences: 12 to 17 month stays in government detention. These are contesting that the state distorted the trial in the state controlled media, in one of many accusations by Catholic clergy, and laymen: that the state controlled media is distorting the situation.
Despite claims of force applied, and duress: the Parishioners contest that: they did not admit any "guilt": and so Catholic lawyers: are giving state media about a week: to withdraw statements: before legal action is taken.

Angola has shut off a border stretch, with the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC); due to an alleged Ebola outbreak: suspected to have infected 40 persons, and killed 13 people, since November. Closing the border is aimed at preventing the spread of the disease, according to representation of the Health Department.
Ebola kills 3 in every ten people who contract it, has not cure, and has symptoms including: vomiting, diarrhoea, and internal and external bleeding. No cases, according to the authorities there: have been reported in Angola. All people have been banned from moving across the border strip, and Angolan police, and military personnel are on the lookout for any signs of the deadly man-killer.

AFP, has reported that the Vatican's newspaper (it is not the official newspaper, but considered to have weight): L'Osservatore Romano: is reporting that the "Pill", has negative environmental effects: AFP, claims that no study is being quoted, and instantly quotes players in the Contraceptives business: to deny claims, saying that plastics (not mentioned here for pollution caused by such), also have many of the same substances.
The claims by the Vatican's paper: follow an American study, where fish had unnaturally been mutated: into half one sex, half another: scientists involved in the University Study: blame hormones, which they thought to be entering the water: via the contraceptive. The Vatican paper: has claimed, based on studies, I have also heard of: that the pill: pollutes water sources, causing problems: among which is human male infertility.
The pill is known for increasing the risk of sexual disease phenomenally, and also has many negative side affects. Creative Minority Report, a satirical, but as to facts quoted: accurate political and social initiative, is asking why no objection has been made by environmentalists: as to the accuracy of opinions: of those profiting from sales of the contraceptive.

Pope Benedict XVI, in his Angelus: has prayed for peace in Gaza, in the Middle east: where fresh conflict has broken out between the State of Israel, and the Terrorist group Hamas, which has occupied the Gaza strip, since conquering it by force: taking it from Palestine's legitimate government, and which continues to bombard Israeli towns with rocket-fire, from this usurping position.
The Palestinian Authority: has laid some of the blame of starting the entire situation, on Hamas, unlike South Africa: which has been blinded to any fault there, being as quietly diplomatic to those terrorists, as it has been to Dictator Robert Mugabe, of Zimbabwe: and South Africa, now: is calling Israel to an unconditional ceasefire: despite 30 rockets being launched into Israeli towns and cities yesterday, one of which hit a childcare facility.
While many news services are reporting Pope Benedict XVI: to be calling an immediate ceasefire: we have seen no direct quote for such: he has blamed the tragedy on a refusal to partake in dialogue, and is praying for peace: and lamenting the conflict, however, I have yet to read a direct quote: which gives an immediate manner in which the conflict must end. He has however: called for prayers: that both sides immediately put hostilities away.
His prayer: is for God to create a ceasefire: and realization: such is different from calls for a ceasefire: he is rather: calling on God: to cause both sides to stop fighting.
His call, is not exactly a condemnation of either side, even as it does lament their mistakes, and blame them for such in no real degree: except, for that of a refusal to dialogue, and a hatred, which he blames for the conflict: but rather: prays for peace, and gives a warning: that the situation is not working in the way it is occurring, in fact, he calls the non-combatants in the Area: victims of "Hatred and War", calling the situation "dramatic".
Even if Israel withdraws, the International Community: still needs to intervene: to prevent the rocket attacks, terrorizing Israeli civilians: which Israel has purportedly mobilized to stop.
The Vatican is a known champion of Palestinian rights, however: in this situation: where Hamas caused renewed conflict, by terrorist attacks, openly fired on Israeli civilians: the Vatican; has acted in a very responsible matter: doing as a Catholic hierarchy should in such a situation: and in a non-partisan way: looking into the reality of the situation. The Vatican is neither anti-Israeli, nor anti-Palestinian, even though this war is not between Israel and Palestine, but the Terrorist grouping, Hamas, and the State of Israel.
Four Israeli Civilians, and one combatant have been killed so far, and dozens of Palestinian civilians, and hundreds of combatants have died. The situation on the ground: is considered to be a humanitarian situation. Possibly a short ceasefire to allow aid in, may have been a better move by Israel, as would continuing air-strikes, but no ground offensive, have likely appeared better in the eyes of certain groups.

Canada: Big Game Tonight Team Canada vs Sweden
All Canadian Hockey fans have their eyes set on this game tonight, the gold-medal match between Sweden and Canada's Team Canada Jr's. Swedish defenceman Victor Hedman and Canadian forward John Tavares will be competing for the NHL entry draft this June.
Saturday's game made Tavares a fantanstic player seem ordinary against the Russians who have always come to the game with amazing speed and checking ability, but Canada took the game, 5-4.
A huge showdown is going to be played out between two hockey nations tonight...with Canadians sitting on the edge of their seats.
Canada will be playing a hard game against Sweden and our scoring has been outstanding something that is the only way to take this game tonight. Canada has won this series for the last 4 years in a row. We have the skill and a desire that has to dominate tonight.

Unlikely Friendships...Sometimes are the Best Kind
I have read a ton of stories today in the news, from the horrid killings happening with Israel marching into Gaza strongly, mourners saying good-bye to eight men who died snowmobiling in an Avalanche in BC ... heartwrenching with 3 surviving and now living with this memory, the contraversy regarding stem cell advancement and its religious impacts, and of course here in Canada, the end of the world happening tonight with a hockey game being played against Sweden.
But the attached link is by far my favourite read today, think my saint is on vacation, a beautiful friendship story between an Elephant and dog. An odd friendship or bond that they share, like some rare humans on this planet seem to have.
It is a kind heartfelt story about two so very different animals, one an Asian 8,700 lbs. elephant named Tarra and a little doggie named Bella. If animals of different species can do it that are so different in everything ... what is wrong with us humans? Why do we resort to killings and evil when we disagree and we are all from the same tribe??
This story should make you stop and think about the behaviours of all of us. Sometimes the most unlikely friends become the best friends and what a bonus that is when that happens.
True friends harbor no fears, no secrets, no prejudices, they just hang out ... they like each other and have each others back!! Love and trust regardless of the differences in their worlds or lives always makes for a best friend. Like the article states we can all learn a lesson from these two creatures.

Sri Lanka: Tigers pushed further back; take town's population hostage

The Tamil Tigers, have again been pushed back, after a recent attack, which took their capital, including their "Banking sector"; government troops: have taken another important area. The town, recently taken: had almost no non-combatants: as these are suspected to have been taken by the terrorist grouping: in order to be human shields. The Tigers broke a peace treaty recently, giving the Sri Lankan government the political support: to actually pursue the annihilation of the rebels:
Previous conflict had aimed at gaining a foothold to get the Tigers to the negotiating table, but recent assaults by the Government of Sri Lanka: since the Tigers broke a peace treaty: have resulted in forcing withdrawal after withdrawal by the Tigers: who recently were reported as kidnapping 16 boys from a Catholic Orphanage: by gunpoint: in order to serve some purpose for their war effort.
The Tigers, have not recently made any official commentary, on the situation apparent, since their defeats.

South Africa: COSATU's ANC allies obey their "Kingmakers": and blame the violence on Israel

Whenever leaders of the socialist affiliated COSATU trade union: noted for their statements against the ten commandments, and calls for genocide inside South Africa: by their leader: whenever these make statements: usually, the ANC, like a puppet, or lapdog, follows suite. South Africa: has called for Israel to withdraw without any conditions whatsoever, further, it has blamed the violence, squarely on Israeli soldiers: ignoring the originally hundreds of rockets daily: before the counter-offensive, and dozens currently: being launched at Israeli civilians, by Hamas: a group which took the Gaza strip from the Palestinian government: by force alone, and has repeatedly called for these terror attacks to continue, also saying they will bomb Israel with suicide bombers.
This despite thirty rockets launched by Terrorist group Hamas, into Israel, today: one hitting a childcare facility. South Africa's government has refused to act on Zimbabwe for 7 years, causing thousands, if not millions of deaths, yet the communist affiliated South African government, which itself has not objected much at all: to calls for genocide, and voter intimidation, by the Ruling ANC's members, nor has seen fit to prevent massive human rights abuses in Zimbabwe: has suddenly decided, that Israel, has no right to a peace deal, which will insure its safety, against Hamas, a group: which took the Gaza strip by force recently, and which is causing problems in the Palestinian government: with terror tactics, and forced empowerment: similar to that used for years, by Hezbolla, on Lebanon.
This is not to say, that Israel, is not causing huge collateral damage, it is not to justify their war: but it is simply another example of South Africa's version of democracy, which affords dictators, and War criminals, Terrorists, and human rights abusers: certain treatment, and other nations, a different sort of treatment.
What is sorely missing from this condemnation, is any call for Hamas to withdraw from dozens of missile strikes aimed at Israeli civilians: it is this sort of illogical: partisan diplomacy: which has allowed the Middle East situation, like the Zimbabwean one: to continue. It is simply more evidence of the double standards, by which the South African government views the world. We have yet to see the ANC condemn their followers for violent act, or statement after violent act or statement, nor have we yet to see very many of their politicians adequately punished for breaking the laws of South Africa.
While South Africa has seen fit to ask the United Nations (UN), to condemn Israeli violence: it must be noted, the press report we have read, not once mentions the fact, that this new violence was solely launched by the hundreds of rockets launched into Israel daily at the time. While we do not agree with Israeli methods, we certainly cannot possibly see: how it is that South Africa could possibly purely blame this on the Jewish nation.
If there is to be peace in the Middle East, partisan interference, by countries, like South Africa: must start to lose its power. This entire situation must be treated, by the United Nations: as exactly what it is: a war, between a political movement, which took power by force, and which has been launching missiles at another nation: from the area it has ceased, purposely firing from highly populated areas: with no regard for life: against civilians; and a nation, ruled by a government: which had advanced more than most: towards peace in this situation.
If Israel must withdraw: then the International Community, must ensure the safety of her free citizens. International troops must be deployed: to treat violations of the peace, in the same manner: as they have in any other warring region. As it is, unfair statements: will do nothing but continue to isolate Israel: meaning that they will feel they have to sort this situation out alone: and ignore the International Community.
So far, we have not seen a statement capable of ensuring Israel: that it is worth listening to. If this situation is to be resolved: both sides must be forced to halt attacks: shouting against Israel: while ignoring the consistent breaches of International Law: by their opponents, is hardly of benefit to the situation: South Africa's own "Quiet Diplomacy" with Zimbabwe: is based on some vague principle, of being "Neutral", even as the MDC, has periodically accused it of being utterly partisan.

Toronto becomes Gridlocked from Protesters
Palestinian and pro-Israeli marchers face off yesterday while cops on horses and bikes try and control the emotions of the crowds and keep some type of peace at Dundas Square. Protesters emotions were on high alert as Israel battled Hamas.
Palestinians were screaming and condemning Israel's attacks. There were approximately 200 protesters at Yonge and Dundas Square.
Across Yonge were approximately 200 pro-Palestinian protesters shouting insults right back at the pro-Israel's.
The only thing keeping the peace were a set of barriers down the middle of Yonge causing total gridlock for anyone trying to navigate there way through the city at this time.
Both groups of protesters were headed straight to the Israeli consulate on Bloor St., but using different routes for fear of the crowds getting out of control and attacking each other while lots of innocent people from all backgrounds were out supporting both sides. Almost everyone agreeing children on both sides were innocent and being killed.
Canada's foreign affairs minister, Lawrence Cannon, has been noted as saying he is concerned about the attacks but our the federal government has at this moment is Israel needs to defend itself.
When news of ground invasion of Gaza hit the protesters they inturn became angrier and marched once again throughout downtown Toronto burning Israeli and American flags before the U.S. consulate.
On the pro-Palestinian side several Jewish Canadians voiced their concerns against Israel's policies.

Gaza Strip, Palestine, Middle East: Israeli Ground offensive has begun

Israeli troops have begun to clash with forces of the Terrorist group Hamas: in the start of a ground offensive to take areas. One always feels sad at the beginning of such a conflict: while it was unpreventable: world leaders did not listen to Israel, and so her people caused her politicians to do something radical: still, this is horrid and sad: perhaps now the world will learn, and treat this situation as what it is: another issue, just like those in Africa, or Bosnia: an issue, where two parties are at war. America is continuing to support the Israeli offensive. Some say that they are using the holiday period to ensure their success.
Rockets continue to be launched into Israel, and like a group of angry bees, protecting the bee hive, or a mother bear, sheltering her children: Israel's wrath has been shown.
The Israeli presidency: claims it has no intent to crush Hamas, but only to stop the terrorist attacks. If they are not lying: then it is very likely that if a long-term peace-fire can be brokered: they will immediately withdraw.
As to the morality of this offensive, while I am so deeply weakened within: I do not take a view: except that whatever route is best for longterm peace: must be taken: and partisan politics involving the two nations must end: press must report exactly what is occurring, at least, as best they can.
Many civilians deaths in this conflict: result from the way in which Hamas has fortified themselves in highly populated areas, of a highly populated region. Reports from civilians inside contradict, according to religious views and nationality: some Catholics welcome the attacks, but one "Palestinian American" interviewed, seemed to contradict the viewpoint of the Catholics on the ground. The only thing that can be agreed: is that peace needs to found again, and a longterm peace. The offensive against Israel, which started this entire issue: has not haulted once, despite the heavy backlash, nor have terrorist threats. Granted, Israel's response is very large, and has been somewhat ineffective, in stopping attacks: still, Hamas has shown their true colours in this war. Again, we call for this to go to the International Criminal Court, where justice can be found for both groups.

Darkness, it spread, as the slow sun began to set. A pinkness of hidden weakness, it latently ...touched the sky, a moment of serenity, as below: a single woman stood; vulnerability: it covered her anguished, fearful face. Around, the mystical ...African air, was icy, was cold, and the icy winter freeze: ...it made her shiver. She looked, no, only slightly glanced: up, above: were the stars, and in them were her hopes: distant as life in a fallen world.
She has only existed for a few seconds: only in my thoughts: ...and words as yet: to you, you have not yet read these words. To you, she has not borne, a moment's life: to you,... only an idea: in an author's dreams.
You see, when we describe her deep, dark: entrancing, enchanting eyes, which enter you, with her powerful deified glance: when we describe her soft skin, which shines whitely, hidden in the shadow, the slight sparkle and meekly beautiful glance of her deep dark eyes: when we describe long brown hair, youth and innocence. We breath in: hoping to drink the memory in.
I used to read many books: these days: mostly I read older books, they are better: I read books, of a different sort than many: because they have standards: I can never really empathize with these evil "Good" characters in many a modern work.
I want, and drink in innocent moments, and mystery, and just a slightly infinite goodness: of good : true good: conquering evil: through weakness finding a way to be somehow find some path, or intriguing ingenuity: which makes them become somehow: strong; somehow: powerful.
We love watching, enchanted ...as the innocent overhear, we enjoy so greatly, when they are hiding, sometimes safe and away: but mostly just beyond the certainty of capture, and of certainty with doom ...conquered in the slightest of secret luck.
I love children's novels, and fairytale: we all do: and I cannot stand many a book or modern movie. When the character is not a simple ordinary little person, who does the right thing: or the good and necessary, somehow: ...finding that slight small amount of courage:

His family, was poor, and God: he loved shepherds, and people who were weak. Like their bandage: he sought them out, in their tears: for these tearful eyes knew of their need of him.

Let us not judge God, our author: but surely, let us aid him: to do what he wants: to write us: a book: one he'll want to read forever: and God only wants to read books with happy endings: become such a book: become your own Julian, or Nancy Drew: 'cept be the author, and one writ by God. I'm in the 58.3% Readers Range
In response to the editor's new endeavour of monitoring traffic on his website, it made me stop and think about my locations and where I fall into the reading of it.
I realized I am in the highest percentage of viewers grouped into 58.3% of North America but I also read in some very strange places and at some very strange times.
It all started with my curiousity and reading this site once a day before I went to bed, usually with some great read with lots of questions for the editor in the morning, sometimes I'd laugh, cry and other times I'd think this can't be, some things probably will never change Marc.
I have lots of mainly catholic questions because I would be referred to as someone who has returned to the church that has been blessed with a great aid along with this site.
Over a period of time of reading, I have noticed the amount of paper I have printed out from this site and realized I need to be more aware of the environment with serious concern for the killing of tree's. I have gone to sleep with "South African Catholic" stuck in my head and also to waking up with it stuck literally to my head or pillow, but I needed a hardcopy to re-read sometimes what I was reading before I fell asleep ... my need of questions kicking in.
Was or is printing a necessity...no, so I decided to stop briefly but then something would stick in my head and I'd think "did he really say that" or "did I read that right" and I'd have to get back up before I could fall asleep and trudge out to log onto the site again ... my need for information kicking in. The amounts of articles printed were becoming a safety hazard in my room, car, purse, work, it was everywhere and a serious addiction to reading this site was happening, but that was a good thing, I loved it and love what this editor was writing about.
I still print usually on an average of 4 times a week, believe me thats much better it gives time for some trees to be re-seeded, planted, but I need a hard copy sometimes especially when its a long read, or there is a chance I am going out of range and cannot log on. Yes, time and time again he proves just how brilliant he is and very accurate in answers on our catholic faith. Scripturelink is another favorite and has become a great source for me to check on things that I wonder about.
This site has become my favorite mainly because its accurate and very open for discussion from its readers. I don't ever believe everything I read and always try to make sure the sources are accurate, this site has proved itself to be and helpful in determining others.
I do know that when I have questions for the editor of this site, my saint, he is usually right and/or can back himself up with accurate and true facts. It has become a very reliable catholic source for me and many others as the traffic is proving.
Sooo until this site goes into paper distribution I will continue to be an avid reader of it regardless of the "stare me down eyes" I get for being on-line always reading. I feel honoured and grateful I am able to read it in some very odd places such as schools, parks, malls, arena's, cars, taxi's, in the air (yes, I should have turned it off) and walking to name a few. I love to read newspapers (a few a day), books, articles, mags, all of it, hardcopies or on-line, my interests are huge ... some very catholic, some not.
But this site is a daily must for me. Of course, I do have some etiquette rules for this need for information that I crave and when it should be turned off and thats when I enter the church, its a rule, not sure if its a catholic one, but a respectful one. Other than that its available pretty much anywhere worldwide and 24/7 to be read.
I realized I am in the highest percentage of viewers grouped into 58.3% of North America but I also read in some very strange places and at some very strange times.
It all started with my curiousity and reading this site once a day before I went to bed, usually with some great read with lots of questions for the editor in the morning, sometimes I'd laugh, cry and other times I'd think this can't be, some things probably will never change Marc.
I have lots of mainly catholic questions because I would be referred to as someone who has returned to the church that has been blessed with a great aid along with this site.
Over a period of time of reading, I have noticed the amount of paper I have printed out from this site and realized I need to be more aware of the environment with serious concern for the killing of tree's. Eyes are on Canadian Military and Cdn Soldier charged with Second Degree Murder
Capt. Robert Semrau, a Canadian soldier and mentor, charged with murder with the intent to kill on Oct. 19 is not all Canadians are questioning. Why weren't the Canadian public made aware of this investigation and what was the delay? Not only is this serious accusation against this soldier shocking its equally shocking why it took 2 months to surface.

I am assuming it was a slip of the tongue, the two groups being so similar, and sounding almost the same: and an accidental assumption: in any case: for journalistic integrity: this is important enough to issue a retraction.

The structures of the Catholic church, while often well meaning: and possibly better prepared than other forms of hierarchy: are notoriously known for their lack of ability involving insuring accountability. The amount of times, one comes across abuse of human, or religious rights: by church structures: is frightening, at times: due to the same method of treating the church as a family, rather than a government, which is still employed, largely throughout much of the world. In Northern Ireland, even church regulations have not been listened to, by those involved in matters involving child protection: resulting in state authorities resorting to getting every church representative: from bishop to priest: to sign that they will adhere to Irish laws on the matter. A bishop implicated in such, has refused, at our last check to resign: against calls from the general public in the region.
While weaknesses in accountability in Catholic church structures: have repeatedly resulted in child abuse: and other, sometimes extremely serious abuses: in local churches throughout the world: the Vatican itself: has implemented screening for predators: of late, and unlike many of those actually involved: the Catholic Pope Benedict XVI: has openly apologized for a collective guilt he felt: resulting in many bishops conferences finally changing policies.
While abuses by clergy in the Catholic church: are markedly below that of other Christian religions: which do not demand celibacy: nor prevent priests from marrying: incompetence: and a lack of accountability; and abuse of authority within local church structures: has resulted in the comparatively lower rates of offense within the church: being mishandled: causing not only scandal, and embarrassment: but along with it: these attitudes which have allowed abuse: have also allowed for many other abuses: resulting largely in schisms such as SSPX, or the leaving of many Catholics from the church.
Further: while the percentage of Catholic priests who abuse minors: is perhaps one of the lowest of any groups, and according to statistics I heard, shortly after the scandal broke: perhaps less than half the percentage of Protestant pastors involved in such: those involved in offenses: were often simply moved around and never prosecuted. Perhaps: a good sign: is that often: the church is advising the contacting of civil authorities due to abuses: and I have since seen at least one letter: claiming that a priest had had his rights to practice as a priest: permanently revoked: and another of other harsh punishment being meted out: as should have been years ago.
What the SSPX, names as the result of Vatican II, or as a result of large abandoning of Latin: can largely be accounted to a lack of accountability in many local churches: as demonstrated by the manner in which the church: in countries where Catholic ethics are adhered to: has grown phenomenally.
As the cover-ups, and abuses are inherently, and utterly apposed to Catholic Ethics, teachings, and morality: it is safe to say: that these come not from the Catholic religion, which is considered, like the Papal line: to be a creation of God: but rather: from those groupings collectively, and individuals individually: who within it, have deviated from such: and from those others, who have allowed this deviation to go unpunished: in small and great.
Nor, can the religion's followers, or all structures themselves be blamed: many are champions of human rights: and the Catholic religion was created by a man: who himself triumphed human rights: including rights of those abused at the hands of an authority: also considered by Jesus: to have been created by God: but to also be fallible in everyday decisions: as the Catholic church also considers itself to be.

There is another possible reason for the current Israeli strikes, one not perhaps overly covered. America is entering a Democrats: presidency next year: under a person who has promised to be softer on international relations: this could be bad for Israel: American support ensures they are not conquered by the Arabic Nations around: and Bush is always helpful: he is one international leader who has read the definition of Terrorist; even if he's extrapolated a bit at times: he has condemned Hamas for reopening hostilities with an Israeli government, which has so far been viewed as too soft on the issue: and too friendly to Hamas: who continues to launch terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians.
Hamas has political insurance out of fighting, as does the other group: to an extent: Hamas has no interest in the welfare of their people, nor in peace: but Israel: if the International community can make them feel safe: perhaps by funding missile defense systems, or other defensive aids: and by finally taking war crimes to trial: if Israel were to be made to feel safe: the entire situation would begin to end.
As it is, every Israeli attack: while seeming not to end the Catastrophic situation, is motivated by a desire to secure Israeli people's lives. Hamas: is so defiant: because their survival depends on an enemy to fight.
The only way to peace: is to ignore Hamas' desires: and focus on the needs of the people, and not what they have been propagandized into believing they want. With the entire situation: an international force needs to be deployed, and to ensure the Human Rights of both sides: the time for tit for tat negotiation is over: the time for human rights has begun. Negotiations: must have a goal: not simply squabbling: and a reason to negotiate: must be given: even if it is the threat, or realization: of international troops: and the Hague.
Soft solutions: are often the cause of fear: which, along with the feeling of injustice: these create: creates hatred: and a desperation which leads to war: and only results from a lack of hope. Both sides have become desperate: and all the condemnation in the world: cannot release Israel: from their justified fear: even if their methods may not be justified. Politics, and games must end in this conflict: there must be a final solution: one which unlike the Nazi campaign: does not involve wiping persons of a certain political or religious, or cultural group out: there must be international: armed intervention: via peace keepers; as happens everywhere else: and there must be at least the threat of international prosecution in the International Criminal Court: for all involved in crimes.
There must be a reason to negotiate, and a hope for justice and final peace from it: which only comes from a higher power, and I am not Referring to either of the religions, of the two groups: rather I refer to the United Nations.
Only by justice, can concord be restored, and by concord, shall peace largely be regained. At least those who ordered illegal actions: these at least must be prosecuted: unless extenuating circumstances can be proved... and not simply assumed.
I am not saying that peace keepers must fight Israeli troops: what I am saying is that these must be deployed, perhaps after fighting, or maybe in some ingenious manner. Also, why is it that Egypt continually closes their border? would this not help the situation, if it were opened: would it not begin to release Hamas' grip on Palestine?

Canadian Soldier in dock over Taliban "Murder"

He is accused of shooting an unarmed man: who was suspected of being Taliban: at the time at least. While the Canadian military police have him in custody: he has yet to be tried. He has been charged with murder.

Pope Benedict XVI: Gaza situation deeper than shallow solutions

Pope Benedict XVI: has condemned what he sees as an arms race: saying that the majority people in the troubled middle-eastern scene: between Israel, and Hamas: actually desire peace. Like any other sensible source: he has not taken sides: but has called for the International Community to do something real: to help the two sides abandon a "dead-end road": blaming distrust, and hatred for the violence.
While Israel: has strong support for their offensive: having claimed about 400 lives, and dozens of civilian casualties: this support comes due to constant barrages of Israeli territory: aimed at civilians, by the Hamas Terrorist grouping: in charge of Gaza. Political authorities in Israel: have been forced into an offensive: by the perceived lacks in security, by the citizens of their country.
So far, most International intervention has been biased in one side or the other, or has aimed at temporary solutions: which do not look at any real causes of the issues in the nation.
Instead of focusing on justice, peace, development: and calling to account crimes: it has been focused on tit for tat negotiations: and has done nothing to halt the hate-speech of terrorist grouping: Hamas: nor has it done anything real to secure the safety of Israeli citizens: instead: adults are forced into peace agreements: as though they were children: real problems are trivialized: and most of the "help" given: is a politically shaded: as the "Help" South Africa continues to give to what only those connected with or biased towards: it still call: "Zimbabwe".
As with the case of Northern Ireland, and in the case of South Africa: any real peace: can only follow justice: where all war-crimes on both sides are accounted for: and the International Community ensures that these go to the Hague.
Political "demigods", can no longer look to their own interests, nor should they be allowed to: the world needs to use its might in this situation: rather than taking sides: or sensationalizing, or justifying terrorism: which never has a justification: all guilty: no matter how powerful: of breaking international law without extenuating circumstances: must be made to book; there is no extenuating circumstances of course: for terrorism.
Just as with gang violence: the answer, and only answer: is the punishment, and I do not refer to "collective punishment": but rather: international intervention, and punishment of those specific people; who are guilty of escalating unjust violence.

Instead of focusing on justice, peace, development: and calling to account crimes: it has been focused on tit for tat negotiations: and has done nothing to halt the hate-speech of terrorist grouping: Hamas: nor has it done anything real to secure the safety of Israeli citizens: instead: adults are forced into peace agreements: as though they were children: real problems are trivialized: and most of the "help" given: is a politically shaded: as the "Help" South Africa continues to give to what only those connected with or biased towards: it still call: "Zimbabwe".
As with the case of Northern Ireland, and in the case of South Africa: any real peace: can only follow justice: where all war-crimes on both sides are accounted for: and the International Community ensures that these go to the Hague.
Political "demigods", can no longer look to their own interests, nor should they be allowed to: the world needs to use its might in this situation: rather than taking sides: or sensationalizing, or justifying terrorism: which never has a justification: all guilty: no matter how powerful: of breaking international law without extenuating circumstances: must be made to book; there is no extenuating circumstances of course: for terrorism.
Just as with gang violence: the answer, and only answer: is the punishment, and I do not refer to "collective punishment": but rather: international intervention, and punishment of those specific people; who are guilty of escalating unjust violence.

She was a Jewish woman, and a hero.
My Grandfather, whose life helped lead me back to the Catholic faith, stood for her party in the Freestate, but never got more than about 10% of the vote. Often, she was the only voice of reason in parliament: and considering what they attempted with my family: I can assure you: it took courage to stand. Without her: many on Robin Island: would have been much worse off: as an MP; she could go there.
I was speaking to someone who knew of her: the amazing thing is: about a month ago: she joined those calling for an Inquiry into the infamous "Arms Deal". Currently the head of the ruling ANC: is constantly managing to prevent this from going to trial: despite the arrest, and conviction of his financial advisor: for having what the judge termed a generally corrupt relationship with the current president of the communist friendly ANC.
Since Apartheid ended: for many South Africans, nothing has changed: instead: foreigners get their government sponsored houses: out of corruption: leading to attacks such as in the Xenophobia; much as it was in Apartheid. White South Africans: have to face discrimination: a company is only allowed to hire so many white people: meaning that due to a shortage, companies used to hire foreigners: until the ANC closed the net. On exiting government: ANC officials, often become successful "Blackchip" CEO's: in that companies have to do a certain amount of business with companies: which are majority black, and large companies must have large percentages of "Black" ownership: resulting in shares often basically being given away: so as to comply with racially motivated laws. Does this change the socio-economic landscape: unfortunately for the worse: while a few politicians and others become rich: and while the standard of business has decreased, and many businesses have collapsed: or hired persons in token positions, the ANC's leaving politicians: often become rich. In fact, the ANC: has taken a co-operating society, and once again resorted to engineering a society, as Apartheid did: more than this, are other results of ANC power: not only causing social tension: and making it harder for those standing for equality, and non-racialism: intimidation, threats of genocide, and annihilation, against political, and legal opposition: resulting in South Africa's version of the FBI: the "Scorpions", being shut down on investigating ANC politicians, and many other issues: including voter intimidation in previous by elections: have made for a landscape of fear, and often made those who stand for non-racialism: have to shut their mouths, for fear of being ridiculed, or shouted down.
Helen Suzman: was brave at all to still be making a stance: those she was apposing, had changed: but she still stood for South Africa: and is a credit to our Jewish brothers.

Which is interesting to say the least: N America: 58.3 %
Africa 25%
Oceania/Australasia: 8.3 %
Europe 8.3 %
Of course, I have never before done this, but it is interesting, and quite a bit of traffic comes from other Scripturelink sites, and is quite useful.

Israel's attack, so near to Christmas: is considered as a Christmas present, by one person interviewed in Gaza: who said that it was his opinion, that most people there hate Hamas, but are to scared of them to voice it. No name for this source was given.
Israel has been in contact with foreigners in the West Bank, extending short periods of permission to again exit the area. Another source said that they didn't talk about politics, rather: only about their immediate situation.
It seems likely that the source of all this information is Catholic people there. The accuracy of it is questionable, as to Hamas being despised, as there is only one source for this: someone who himself seems to dislike a group which he considers as abusive towards Catholics and Muslims in the area.
Condemnation of Israel, by lay Catholics in the Gaza strip, however: is something I personally have not seen since the start of the conflict. It seems, many in Gaza, just like many in Israel: are exhausted of the politically motivated impasse. Hamas continues defiance, and has at our last check: continued terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians: despite heavy losses. Heavy civilian losses, can be ascribed to a sort of human shield method used by the terrorist group: Hamas: which purposely places installations, and launches rockets also: intentionally: in and from heavily populated civilian areas.
As to whether or not this advance is justified: many sources would prefer a peaceful solution, at least: those outside of the Gaza strip, but other than supporters of Hamas: this invasion, seems viewed as relief from terror by some.
In the end, condemnations from Catholic sources fear greater hatred being caused by these battles: how justified this war is: will only be determined, after fighting has stopped. The Israeli government has launched this counterstrike: after hundreds of missiles were launched at Israeli civilians: an embarrassment: to a government; which has risked looking too friendly to Palestine.
The war itself: is a result of the failure of the International Community: in the peace efforts: embarrassing an Israeli government which actually co-operated with such: to the extent of being looked down on by Israeli people. A government, which seems to be fighting its war: for political survival: seen as having been too soft in securing Israel: now, spurred on by the opposition: the Israeli government is making a gesture to its people: a gesture, which has cost hundreds of lives: and which would not have been made, in the case: that this government had not been made to look foolish.
Israel: has decided to lift the corpse from its doorway: for years, it has been condemned for Palestine: often wrongly; it certainly is not implementing Apartheid: it is Palestine, which has taken a territory from Israel, and these are two separate states. The result of consistent calls for her destruction: Israel, has decided to finally rid the world of one of the causes of these.
This recent war, proves: not a failure in Israel, but in the International Community: simply continuing to Condemn Israel, while ignoring hundreds of Missiles launched at it: is a mistake; isolating Israel: despite the fact, their enemies: openly advocate terrorism: has only caused the Jewish nation to go it alone. As long as the International Community condemns violence: it is good publicity: but I have yet to see a real solution given: peace needs hope, and justice: but because Hamas could not survive it: the International Community has not once suggested an international Tribunal: to try members of both sides, and force through peace.
The words of the Israeli people: ignored by the world, as they daily face terror attacks; and endless threats: are so much more poignant in the eyes of their politicians: than a thousand protests, and condemnations. Until Israel is given the voice it deserves: it will continue to insure its safety in the only sure way it knows.
The civilian losses in Palestine are huge: but it needs to be noted: that these losses were intended by Hamas: should there be an attack: they have always used civilian deaths as a banner: and have not withdrawn from heavily populated ares.
This said, while I think there must be a better, peaceful answer to this: as long as the International Community continues to prevent Israel from having this option: by allowing her people to call for blood: out of constant fear: we will not see a solution. Any clever politics mean nothing: when Israel's people: are those forcing this war through: the International Community needs to look sincerely into this situation: rather than simply advocating peace: without giving a way to create it.
Both Israeli, and Palestinian needs: need to be put on the table: and those who are obstacles: unjust obstacles: not perceived ones: to a lasting peace: need to be taken down by the United Nations. Clearly, as seen in their strikes, and pointless fighting: Hamas: has it in their best interests politically: to insure fighting continues, and as long as terrorist attacks continue to hit Israel: any Israeli politician, also has it in their best interests to continue fighting: both sides also only lose face in hearing international voices.
Until the political necessity is reversed on both sides: there is no point in simply condemning fighting: because neither side will edge towards peace: until they think it is of benefit to their personal political interests.

The Vatican is making a break from a policy it has had since the Lateran treaty established it; after the papal states had been conquered by force: by Italy. In Catholic doctrine, a law must be logical, and for the good of the people. If it is rejected: the church only ligitimately can reject laws it sees as evil and oppressive: illogical, and not for the greater good.
The Vatican will no longer automatically adopt Italian law; while rejecting individual laws: instead: it had decided that Vatican representatives will read over each law made: to decide whether or not: individually to adopt these. This is seen as an open rejection of the government formed by Catholic laity in Italy.
