Footprints of the Gods, to some, fairy tale to others? Yet, Fairy Circles in Sub-Saharan Africa are 'alive' - Biologist finds!

(SACNS)

Footprints of the Gods, to some, fairy tale to others? Yet, Fairy Circles in Sub-Saharan Africa are 'alive' - Biologist finds! Circles have a lifespan of about 6 decades, and dynamically change, satellite images prove!

'So Tschinkel turned to satellite images. By comparing photos taken over a 4-year period, he confirmed something other scientists had suspected: The circles were alive — or at least they were dynamic. A number of circles appeared and disappeared over this time period. Extrapolating from the data, Tschinkel calculated that most smaller circles arise and vanish every 24 years, whereas larger circles last up to 75 years. Overall, the lifespan averaged 41 years.

To confirm his results, Tschinkel crunched data collected from the NamibRand Nature Reserve. Over the past 10 years, the park has sold fairy circles to ecotourists for about $50 each. The buyers don’t actually get the land; they just adopt it—kind of like people who “purchase” stars. Each circle the reserve sells is marked with the date of sale, and new owners are given the latitude and longitude so they can check up on their purchase on Google Earth.

Tschinkel’s friends at the reserve revisited the sold fairy rings and took photos to estimate the amount of regrowth that had occurred over the years. From the number of fairy circles that had died or started to die over the past 2 to 9 years, Tschinkel calculated that the fairy circles had an average age of about 6 decades. “It gives me some confidence that we really are talking about a lifespan of about 30 to 60 years,” he says.'

Despite #SCOTUS Upholding ACA / Obamacare: The law won't last, is doomed to fail soon, expert warns!

(SACNS)

Scott Rasmussen, writing for Rasmussen Reports at March 30, 2012, who's firm predicted two recent elections, has warned 'Obamacare' / Affordable Care Act supporters, the law won't last:

'If it gets past that hurdle, the law also could be ended by Election 2012. If a Republican president is elected, the GOP will almost certainly also win control of the Senate and retain control of the House. While the details might take time, a Republican sweep in November would ultimately end the Obama experiment.

But even if the law survives the Supreme Court and the next election, the clock will be ticking. Recent estimates suggest that the law would cause 11 million people to lose their employer-provided insurance and be forced onto a government-backed insurance plan. That's a problem because 77 percent of those who now have insurance rate their current coverage as good or excellent. Only 3 percent rate their coverage as poor. For most of the 11 million forced to change their insurance coverage then, it will be received as bad news and create a pool of vocally unhappy voters.

Additionally, the cost estimates for funding the program are likely to keep going up. Eighty-one percent of voters expect it to cost more than projected, and recent Congressional Budget Office estimates indicate voters are probably right. But it's not the narrow specifics and cost estimates that guarantee the ultimate demise of the president's health care plan. It's the fact that the law runs contrary to basic American values and perceptions.

This, then, is the third hurdle the law faces: Individual Americans recognize that they have more power as consumers than they do as voters. Their choices in a free market give them more control over the economic world than choosing one politician or another.

Seventy-six percent think they should have the right to choose between expensive insurance plans with low deductibles and low-cost plans with higher deductibles. A similar majority believes everyone should be allowed to choose between expensive plans that cover just about every imaginable medical procedure and lower-cost plans that cover a smaller number of procedures. All such choices would be banned under the current health care law.'

The Supreme Court upheld the Individual Mandate as a tax. This is a huge victory for Obama, and a talking point for conservatives desiring to repeal his law. Fred.Barbash 4:45 PM USA Time  for Reuters's Supreme Court Live Blog 'SUPREME COURT DECISIONS'  says that the court seems to have upheld the law under taxation, but disallowed it as commerce under the commerce clause, which does play a role for the future. According to Reuters's Reuters/Ipsos poll, 56 % of Americans Oppose Obama's Affordable Care Act, as 44% support it. 45% of Americans said they'd likely vote for a Candidate running on promises to repeal the law, versus 26% who would be less likely to vote for them.

Earlier Today, France 24 staff, claimed, that a victory for Obama, in the Supreme Court, was the best option for Republicans, who could run on amongst other options: repealing the law.

Kennedy, joined Scalia, Alito and Thomas, in voting Obama's signature legislature unconstitutional, while Chief Justice Roberts and the majority upheld the controversial law.

The policy decisions, to force Catholics to buy coverage of drugs, which abort pre-implanted fetuses, and contraception, and sterilizing insurance will still likely be heard at a later stage, as it emerges from powers given Kathleen Sebelius Heath And Human Services Secretary, which she used to class these as Preventative health care. According to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, fertility is not a disease, but healthy, and thus the inclusion, is inconsistent. Catholics claim their First Amendment (Not an Amendment but a Constitutional Right, in international terminology) right to religious freedom, is being denied, as Catholics believe that direct involvement in a theological 'intrinsic' moral evil such as funding it, is a mortal sin. Catholics are excommunicated for abortions, including of pre-implanted embryos.

It seems, that CNN were taken aback by the ruling that the law was to be upheld. Reuters, who are live blogging the Event, noted that CNN had reported the result incorrectly, while giving their own view. It was later cleared up, that the Court had upheld the decision.

The case, before the Affordable Care Act, was the United States v. Alvarez which found that lying about receiving a military medal of honour, should not be a crime. The court, struck down the Stolen Valor Act, which Barack Obama had supported. The man who had been sentenced under it, had seemingly made no profit from his lies, meaning they could not be classed as fraudulent, but had instead been tried, under the broad definitions of the act, leading to criminal penalties. Justices, questioned whether lying about an adulterous affair, could next be made a crime.

News 24 no longer as Independent? Death of former head of Online: leads to Africanist slant, pro-ANC slant!

(SACNS)

News 24, owned by NASPERS, formerly the Nationale Pers, has increasingly given air to anti-Western-culture (anti-Christianity etc), and pro African (Black) Supremacist articles. When I asked why non-news stories, which purely benefit the Zuma administration, were being given space, over actual news, the response, was disconcerting, News 24, blocked me. Government allied The New Age, when I did something similar, simply retweeted a reply to me. News 24, however, blocked my access to their Google Plus. Which to me is even more suspicious.

In our News Anaysis, every service I edit, will now account for the News 24 / Naspers media bias. Their seeming choice to ally their voice to that of President Jacob Zuma, and to become a Back Bencher type for the ANC, is certainly concerning to me, personally. The New Age, granted, should be taking a government view. And yet, the New Age, is not publishing the same apologetic articles, which News 24 are.

Irish Owned: Independent Newspapers, and Prime Media, still appear to be quite independent, as with national publishers Caxton... but to trust the Naspers papers, at present, is a doubtful choice, as with the Carte Blanche television show. For this reason, the non-NASPERS papers, mentioned will be seen as independent. NASPERS cannot gain that honour!

News 24, as it did during Apartheid, when Naspers supported the Apartheid Regime, and helped popularize it, seems increasingly to take a Africanist (Black Supremacist) viewpoint... in line with the current moves of the government, but contrary to economic soundness, and non-bias.

As such, I'd be interested in knowing: whether the recent death of their former online head (June 24 Antonie Roux died), could be the cause, or whether there is another explanation. Also, whether these seemingly politicized posts, are simply a fluke, I'd be interested, if I am misreading this?

BBC Telling half Truths on Arab Spring... internal report admits, other journalists worry of propaganda effect!

(SACNS)

The BBC's failure to note a genocide against black Africans in Libya, without cause, and its downplaying rebel atrocities there and elsewhere, such as Syria, has had the BBC admit to being over-enthusiastic for one side or other. Media, often sells better where there is a clear bad guy and a clear good guy.

In war, mostly, both sides are equally bad, or both bad and good. The BBC, it seems, has been pushing the good of one side, and the bad of another. An experienced journalist, and former UN communications director, has authored an internal memo, raising some concerns. Others have worried about the BBC's reputation and honesty, following the BBC's internal memo on bias. Biased reporting on a conflict, can easily be perceived as propaganda, and often aids one or other side.

When news, rather than reporting the truth, from among the lies, takes sides, often lives are cost, or nations destroyed...

RT (in an article by their staff) Interviews TJ Walker of Media Training Worldwide at 28 June 2012:

http://www.rt.com/news/bbc-media-uprising-competition-929/
'“There is a bias, always in favor of the bigger story. The true revolution is always going to be more exciting, it’s going to be a bigger story and that’s what reporters want to be a part of. It doesn’t mean it was a good journalistic decision, but that is reality when it comes to major networks,” Walker told RT.

Authored by Edward Mortimer, a former foreign affairs commentator for the Times and Financial Times and ex-UN director of communications, the BBC Trust report accused the network of being slow to highlight human rights abuses by rebel factions in the Libyan war and underestimating the violent nature of the Syrian uprising as it began. It also stated that the channel failed to provide international reaction to events or focus on other countries like Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

The BBC has acknowledged that its coverage of the subject could have been broader.
“In the conflict in Egypt in the beginning. . . we might have sounded over-excited – you can take on the color of who you’re with,” Helen Boaden, the director of news, was quoted saying. “In Libya too, where we were essentially embedded [with the rebels] at the start, we might have sounded over-excited – you have to be careful if you can’t get to the other side of the story.”'

A Call for International Troops: UN fears Syria is becoming 'non-international armed conflict' a.k.a. civil war!

(SACNS)

The UN, while admitting they have no evidence to suggest it, continue to say government forces may have been involved in the killing of civilians in a fight with Rebels. Russian Station RT, has Video footage, which may be suggesting Rebels are responsible for a similar massacre. The fact news agencies such as the Vatican's Agenzia Fides, note that rebels are using Christians, and other minority civilians as human shields, is still not noted by the UN. That the kidnappings (what the UN terms as abductions), are not for prisoner exchanges, but to ransom government troops to their families for a few hundred dollars, as Reported by the Global Post, is not here noted by the UN.

That both sides are committing abuses, however, is something, the UN has now admitted to, especially raising concern over the Rebels, using children to assist their soldiers. Non-International Conflict, is a scenario markedly different from unrest.

Non-International Conflict, means that the government of a country, suddenly falls under different rules, as do any causing unrest. The two sides, become almost like two countries. Both become more accountable.

'“Inconsistencies in the available evidence hindered our ability to determine the identity of the perpetrators at this time. Nevertheless, we consider that forces loyal to the Government may have been responsible for many of the deaths,” Mr. Pinheiro said.

He noted that Government forces, and the associated militia known as Shabiha, have perpetrated unlawful killings, arbitrary arrests and detention, torture and other forms of ill-treatment. Particularly affected are children, who continue to suffer amid the ongoing violence.

In addition, despite the difficulties in collecting evidence of sexual violence, interviews conducted by the Commission indicated that Government forces and Shabiha have committed acts of sexual violence against men, women and children.

At the same time, the Commission considers it has “reasonable grounds” to believe that anti-Government armed groups have extra-judicially executed captured members of the Government forces, Shabiha, foreign fighters, Government supporters, suspected informers and/or collaborators.

“The Commission also found that anti-Government armed groups have tortured captured members of the Syrian security forces and/or their alleged supporters and abducted civilians and members of Government forces, usually to facilitate prisoner exchanges,” said Mr. Pinheiro.

“We are particularly concerned by reports that anti-Government armed groups have been using children as medical porters, messengers and cooks, exposing them to risk of death and injury” he added.'

New Study: Scientists invent cure to smoking... it works with mice... they say!

(SACNS)

The Daily Telegraph is reporting on an amazing achievement... a vaccine, which causes nicotine to have no effect whatsoever... on mice. Nicotine calms a person, and causes a slowing in heartbeat. These positive effects of smoking, are something the scientists, think... need to end.

So... How does it work?

Genetic Engineering... yes, I said it... Genetically Modified (GM) antibody... as a cure. The anti-body filters nicotine out of the blood, and after it appears once, the bodies... of the mice, mimic it. Such means: no more pleasure from smoking.

It is suggested that, soon they may graduate from Mice to Men. But if you are a mouse or a man... the best laid schemes and plans of either... to quit, might determine if one is a mouse or a man... There is still the emotional addiction to deal with, if the process works, and any side affects, as yet unspoken.

'NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen praised Montenegro’s commitment to implement the needed reforms to meet NATO membership standards on Wednesday (27 June) after talks with the Balkan country’s foreign affairs and defence ministers.

The Secretary General voiced strong appreciation for Montenegro's clear commitment to Euro-Atlantic integration and its contribution to the NATO-led mission in Afghanistan. "I am very grateful for your participation in ISAF and your financial support for the Afghan Security Forces -- this is a significant effort," Mr Fogh Rasmussen said. He also commended Montenegro on its moderating role in the region, and congratulated the country on the progress achieved in its EU accession process.

He called on Montenegro to continue its momentum of reform, and to maintain an adequate level of defence spending despite tough economic times.

The Secretary General met with Milan Rocen, Montenegro’s Foreign affairs and European integration minister and Milica Pejanovic-Djurisic, Montenegro’s Defence minister. The two ministers also attended a session of the North Atlantic Council on Wednesday to update Allies on reform progress.'

New research, shows that studies, including complex mathematics, are less likely to be quoted by other scientists, leading to fear that important scientific knowledge is not being maintained, scientists suggest that those crafting papers, should go through their mathematics step by step and make it easier for scientists to comprehend. Google's work seems otherworldly... however, privacy concerns: over their using search history to see what contents to give you, e.g. with sport!

GPS position recording raises concerns on Privacy! It uses your habits, but how secure is data?

Google's consistent recording of data, sounds useful, but concerning.

A few select developers already had access before everyone else.

Google is pushing subscription, in app payment systems to developers.

Google Play sales of songs are noted... doesn't sound different from competitors, Amazon Fire, sounds better! Mike Elgan notes, that he doesn't see benefit in being able to buy instead of rent video. And that they have big partners: walt Disney, etc.

Mike Elgan says they have wired, Vanity Fair, etc. And claims it is catch up with hitense store.

Nexus 7: Android 4.1, clear attempt to release before Kindle Fire... made with Asus, who also made Eye candy for Windows 8!

In international law, a television station is a fair target... as are journalists... if they take a side in reporting, however... it is sad to see this attack against a tv station... it seems more than required force was used... it sounds more like a war crime...
