Time of Receipt: [17:19 (+-2 hours ago)] on the 18th June 2009

"

Just last week, the House Pro-Life Women's Caucus came together to defend Life and challenge taxpayer funding for abortion in the District of Columbia.  Chairwoman of the House Pro-Life Women's Caucus, Jean Schmidt (R-OH), was joined by Congresswomen Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Kathy Dahlkemper (D-PA), Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and pro-life heroes Congressmen Joe Pitts (R-PA) and Chris Smith (R-NJ).

The House of Representatives is currently considering whether or not to take-up President Obama’s recommendation that taxpayer funds be used to fund abortion in the District of Columbia. In his 2009-2010 budget proposal, President Obama called for the repeal of the Dornan Amendment, which prohibits taxpayer funding of abortion in Washington D.C. (with exceptions in cases of the health of the mother, rape or incest). The Dornan Amendment is part of the Financial Services Appropriations bill and it is scheduled to be taken up in Committee starting on June 23rd and it is scheduled to come up for a vote on the House floor on July 17th.

Opposition to using taxpayer funds to support abortion on-demand for any reason is bi-partisan.  The newest member of the House Pro-Life Women's Caucus, Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper (D-PA), shared her personal story of hope and love that came from her own unplanned pregnancy.  She witnessed the birth of her second grandchild just this month!  Check out her video:

In addition to addressing this important legislative issue, Congresswomen Bachmann and Schmidt offered their perspective on what real love and support looks like for mothers and families:

I ask that you help spread the word about the work these great pro-life Women are doing. There aren’t many pro-life women in Congress and we think it is important to highlight the few that are there.

The Pro-Life Women’s Caucus is planning on holding a press conference next Wednesday, June 24th at 10am on Capitol Hill. If you are in the D.C. area and interested in covering this press conference please contact my colleague Joy Yearout: jyearout@sba-list.org
